CONCEPT
My typographic collage work is a personal and experimental exploration of visual communication. I think of it as a form of experimental typography, where I push the boundaries of traditional design to create something that feels alive, unpredictable, and uniquely expressive. Found objects are at the heart of my process—they’re essential, almost like collaborators in the creative dialogue. Each object I incorporate brings its own story, texture, and history, which I juxtapose with typographic elements to construct compositions that are dynamic, layered, and thought-provoking.
My approach to typography was profoundly shaped during my studies, particularly under the guidance of Robert Carter, my professor of typography. His insights and passion for the field were instrumental in deepening my understanding of type as not just a tool for communication but as an art form in its own right. This perspective planted the seeds for what would become my typographic collage work.

In this practice, I aim to disrupt conventional notions of type and layout. I let typography interact freely with its environment—whether that’s a piece of torn paper, a scrap of fabric, or even a photograph. The interplay of these elements allows me to craft visual narratives that are both structured and chaotic, deliberate yet spontaneous. It’s a balancing act between control and surrender, where each piece evolves in its own organic way.
For me, this work is more than just a design process; it’s a means of storytelling and self-expression. Every collage reflects my curiosity, my reverence for materials, and my desire to connect with viewers on a visceral level. It’s about creating something that feels simultaneously grounded in typographic principles and liberated from their constraints—a space where design meets art in its purest form.
Before advancing to the next stage of exploration (more on that, coming soon!), I plan to actualize the final chapter in my creation of these….; in the form of this series done on canvas vs paper or digital. This group of seven shall be the culmination of a certain chapter of exploration, namely what I once directly learned from a highly esteemed professor of typography; is properly termed a “Typographic Collage”.
